The Living Winds
Or: This is the way we speak our words, speak our words, speak our words!

The myriad peoples of Šaol are by and large not mute; they speak to each other what their ancestors spoke. Note that this does not mean they have only one language; far, far from it. Most is known about the great northern landmass, Rašau, especially of its western end, home of the great Kanaschi League and the vibrant states spread near and across the northern Regil Plains. Her languages are many, and tidbits of a new speech are always finding their way into the great centers of learning.

A widely-held belief of Western Rašau is that the spirits of those unworthy to join the other ancestors after death are taken by the North Howl, a bitterly cold wind which sometimes plagues the otherwise-pleasant Kanašu Peninsula in winter, and are bonded into slavery for eternity, their cries all but inaudible to human ears, who hear only the rush and whistling of the wind: the Dead Winds. In opposition to these anguished wailings are the sounds of the living: the hubbub of the marketplace, the animals and workers on the farms, the laughter of children playing, the sighs of lovers. These are known in Tzuman as Vúleš Kvalǧisáleš, the Living Winds.
