Speaking of which, whoever comes up with some core lexicon for maldisi is awesome.

quoting Rhetorica:
Is anyone interested in deriving a few basic nouns and verbs from Torco's boxed set of Maldisian roots? (Bonus points for coming up with derivational morphology or at least morpheme-combining rules.)

Where is this boxed set of Maldisian roots exactly?

I updated the section on Umam which mentions the foreign rule here. I think that this topic merits a fuller discussion, so if anyone wants to give it a try I say go for it. Also, I struggled with generating Gwopfian (?) names because I couldn't find a Romanization anywhere. Please correct me if "Tshun" is incorrect.

The romanization is in my post above* with the images. In the IPA tables, the upper character in a cell is the IPA character, while the lower character is the romanization.

*By "above", I apparently mean "on the last page". This form appears to handle thread pages oddly.

Anyways, looking at the chart, <Tshun> [tsʰun] is A-OK.

ADDENDUM: Oh, just looked at the Umam page, you spelled Sakdatas wrong. I'd fix it, but I appear to not be able to edit the page.

My apologies! The misspelling is fixed, but I'll have to ask Rhetorica about how letting other people edit stuff works again.

I also made some very minor edits to the article on the Gwópfas. It's not a bad article at all, although it would flow better with some breaks!

Click "Show/Hide Page Setup Controls" while editing the page, then toggle the group edit checkbox. I've turned it on for Umam.

Yes and yes! It's been a bit quiet as Torco and Hurq have been scarce lately, but with a bit of vanshúa I think it'll be just fine. Adding you to the group now.

Stuff that Needs to be like Done

Physical anthropology of the inhabitants of the pseudo-peloponessos <ideally, with drawings, cause drawins are pwetty>. it was proposed a couple of distinct ethnic groups.

The Republican Wars (622 to 627) at umam

Another city nearby

position of the gwopfas homeland [this may be my own ignorance]

black maldisian grammar

climate map

general religious features of the inland sea world <you know, kinda alike mediterranean cultures and religions were mostly about immortality and oracles and miracles and stuff by the first century BC, or how chinese religions are kinda atypically about nature and social order and how people should relate to each other, or how indian religions are about moksha and so on and so on>

I hereby decree that any contributor that contributes one of this points wins the internet.

i mean, there are a million other kinds of things one could do, but that's just a list of ideas.

Chefas, the Gwopfas homeland, is that island to the southwest of the Umami peninsula.

Let's talk about Maldisian grammar. In my mind, the way we've been discussing things promotes the idea of a generally isolating language that only occasionally forms compounds. It probably won't have much in the way of an overwhelming morphology system, since the Maldisians seem to be largely merchants descended from agrarian folk, but I could see room for a more elaborate register used preferentially by nobles and religious folk that preserves this sort of stuff.
