Everything is broken because our Stash server is configured in an annoying as fuck way and I literally cannot push any of my perfect valid changes.

Good news I fixed it, I think. Bad news I'm still at work for 2 hours.

I sympathize, having had three problem sets due today and consequently a total of one and a half hours of sleep last night... bloody Hermitian operators... mumble mumble eigenvectors...

Sleep is conquerable. Simply do not attempt to have it, and you will be successful in all your cadavers.

Sorry to hear. That's some of the shit that makes me afraid to go back to school. My tiny heart couldn't take it.

So I installed Mint Debian on a different partition. It failed to use my GPUs. I think 'ok, I'll just chroot into it on my existing installation and update the nvidia driver', NOPE. I have no fucking clue why, but doing that installation somehow fucked up my existing installation's use of the nvidia driver, thus killing my X.org. I'm tired of this driver bullshit, and no Debian-based distro I know of ships with a 3.4 kernel (which is where the shenanigans are finally fixed). And it has to work out of the installer's box because I'm just fucking tired of trying to fix this with only a command line prompt. I'm grabbing my data not already backed up somewhere with a liveCD now and am going to format everything and start new.

I'm open to distro suggestions.

uh fuck, thats awful. I'm using Lubuntu on my chromebook, which is nice so far, but Im afraid I can't speak to the usefulness of this for anything with actual GPUs in it. I used to use Mint on my old netbook, but honestly I did not love it.

I'm not a big fan of mainline Mint either (too conservative). Since that post I've found out the issue is that nonfree drivers are required for either of my GPUs to work, and of course the (Mint) Debian installers don't let you throw those in during installation. I'd prefer to be running a Sid-based install, but you can't do that without starting with Debian Testing, which doesn't include nonfree drivers, and I can't reliably get a net connection to any liveCD (they choke on my wifi card and I can only sometimes run a LAN cable, which I have to then yank back up even though there's all of a foot of visible cable not under a rug or in my room).

I got my main Mint installation working again, sort of. A lot of options got fucked up, and fixing them all is about as much work as starting from scratch. Only I don't know what I could start from scratch with.

So, despite having my new passport for only about six months and it sitting in a lock box for most of that time (except when I went to Canada), the cover on it is slightly convex and won't stay flat, even after compressing it under some heavy things. It's not damaged, but I'm not wholly sure if this is a "normal" thing (I forget if it is). And I'm a smidge paranoid about making sure that it stays in pristine condition, especially with me probably going to India at some point next year and needing to apply for a visa for that.

Also, I have less than five days of vacation left. Not really looking forward to going back to Ohio.

my passport is beat up from carrying it in my pocket every day for like 6-7 months. when i tried to get back into england, the customs officer made a withering comment but let me back in. Of course, England is my own country, I don't know what he'd have done otherwise.

NE: Further data points: the French border police didn't care, nor did the Croatian ones, but these were the kind of controls who just come onto the train and check your passport rather than the Dover office which has a bureaucrat saying STAY BEHIND THE YELLOW LINE and scanning your passport with a machine.

Looking for a cheap android of some kind. leaning toward Samsung or Huawei. Friend of mine from Australia has a Huawei phone, she's quite happy with it, so if I can get a reasonable one for cheaper, I might do that.

Good luck getting a new phone J

You don't need to, that was MHG. ;-) (The giveaway is that endings are mostly -e-, like in Modern German, OHG still had full vowels in the endings.)
