Wood sylphs are most accustomed to fighting in dense terrain. They never developed any tendency toward formations, opting instead for decentralized units and fluid tactics. Meisylvan soldiers have always valued camouflage, probably due to their natural abilities. They prefer to move and wait in hiding and strike without being seen. Because of this, wood sylphs have traditionally favored the art of archery. Meisylvan military units, then, are typically decentralized forces predominated by archers. Wood sylph archers chiefly use the ‘wheelbow’, a device with wheels and cables affording a powerful draw from a surprisingly compact weapon. Wheelbows are traditionally crafted from bolzemond (stonewood) wheels and tarrow (ash) heartwood.

On a larger scale, wood sylphs specialize in guerilla combat. Most of their historical military action has been against occupying naisylvan forces. Centuries of facing noble sylvan intelligence has forged meisylphs into masters of stealth and escape. They never fight without stages of fallback points and networks of covered escape routes. They prepare contingency plans ranging from hunkering down for weeks until enemy forces leave to burning down acres of the surrounding terrain, depending on how their mission turns out.

One of the most dangerous elements of meisylvan military forces is their logistical mage corps. Druidic gleaners are powerful, specialized spellcasters who can produce food and even materials for ammunition or fortifications from any terrain. Wood sylvan guerillas lack any sort of meaningful supply lines, giving them an enormous array of strategic options and limiting their vulnerable points.
