In the beginning, there was X'áng

The incipient verb ḷó aspect-switches to mean "exist"

lì- is a relatively common verbalizer.

They stayed in darkness for a long time

Joining of stative verbs to nouns with the "light copula" -k. Note the special form of źyè for "two" when used as a dual pronoun.

After many years, X'áng began to feel alone again

Reduplication marking a multiplicity of things. zàd (probably diachronically something like "stand", as usual; synchronically no longer any ungrammatical meaning?) plus an imperfective verb produces a perfect-like semantics; the "after" is not explicit. dḥàs as an auxiliary takes double inflection. The complement of "feel" is a relative clause on its syntactic object: "X'áng felt himself who was alone".

Thus X'áng made light, so he could see his wife

Purposive clauses are formed with -héy. ná- attaches to it in this case, but it probably stands alone when there is another cliticization target for ná-. Reflexive possession only requires apposition of the possessed noun and the reflexive pronoun.

When X'áng saw his wife, he said to her: "Let us come together and bear children"

This is a loosely bound serial verb construction with a perfectivized initial verb followed by an unmarked second clause. Exhortative constructions work with "đìm" plus a normal 1p inclusive irrealis verb. "Come together" is formed with the imperfective kùẉáŋ plus ḷó as an aspect changer; this auxiliary being naturally perfective, is not required. The object prefix voices the following stop. "Say to" is expressed as a split-marking serial construction ḥáḫásɯ̀kˀ kòtáq (literally, "he-say her-go").
