WALS says relative clauses can come from a "general noun-modifying clause construction", so maybe we have the Turkish strategy with generalization of the ezafe thing; the nonfinite form of the stem probably merges with the minor form, with the augmented form generally taking over, so let's say we have nonfinite + yasu > hyuj... except the nonfinite form would be lost except in a few most common verbs.
