The Boorkhodic languages are spoken on the Continent mostly north of the Mhraic languages.
The family is composed of cca 20 languages and is divided into three branches: Southern (spoken south of the Mhraic languages), Northern and Eastern.

Most Boorkhodic languages are written with a descendant of the old Eastern Boorkhodic script with the exception of Boorkhod, which is written with the Mhra script, and the Southern Boorkhodic languages, which are written with variants of the Thangaith, Kasaung and Ngowang scripts.

The northernmost Boorkhodic peoples are nomadic, moving their dwellings along with the wild game they often hunt.
The other Northern and Eastern Boorkhodic people either move south in winter (and back north in summer) or are sedentary, especially in the more southern regions. This creates strange contact situations, in which more northern languages often loan words for summer-related activities (and sedentary lifestyle) from the sedentary population closest to their summer campsites, while the nomadic populations closely related to said sedentary population (as the nomadic/sedentary distinction cuts through language groups) having loaned said words from more southern sedentary languages.
The Boorkhod people proper live amongst the Mhra and Poneamndrieng, sharing a common culture that's an amalgam of Boorkhodic and Mhraic elements.
The Southern Boorkhod people are sedentary, having also adapted some elements of the neighboring cultures.
