Yes. That's the same issue. For some reason the regex pattern /\bx\b/ where x is the emoticon isn't working. (And before anyone asks, "" doesn't require any escaping.) I may just go quietly nuts.

In this case it took (\b|^|[^\w]) for the preceding match and just \b for the following match—that is, a word boundary, a non-word character, or the start of the string. I guess ^ may not be strictly necessary, but, y'know, better safe than sorry.
