<Cevt> There are-- I guess?-- cases in which depending on which anatomical feature you pick you can find synapomorphies supporting entirely irreconcilable trees

It appears to me that we still have only half the requisite number of people saying yes. Should we start advertising in channel?

Granted there is a variant ruleset for six players that doesn't use Italy, and if everyone is down for that I say we should go for it, because getting stuck with Italy is even worse than getting stuck with Austria. At least with Austria if you get hosed you generally die fast, whereas the perennial fate of Italy is a slow lingering failure to either succeed OR...

I can't resist, sorry:

* Cevv screams for ice cream but nothing happens
<Radius> suddenly, your door is battered down by six orcs
<Radius> they are carrying half a gallon of your favorite flavor of ice cream
<Radius> you have at hand a silver sword +2
<Radius> roll for initiative.
* Cevv rolls: 3
<Radius> your blisteringly quick attack slices through the first orc and substantially "incoveniences" the one behind him. Your half-gall...

The issue was that pharazon was visiting, hence I was busy with IRL social life*, and the visit originally was planned to be over by then. Instead it only just ended yesterday. So I am now free and foresee no further time constraints. Bring on the Spring 1901...

Whether that's a lie depends on exactly what you mean by a "front". :P

Either way there is no path forward that isn't going to take at least three more game years. And I personally would rather wrap up the game sooner than that.

Or, conceivably, someone else could take over England.

Anthologica Diplomacy -- Winter Edition (2015-01-17 17:43:27) :
Miekko and Anguipes:

We have 12, 11, and 11 centers, and everyone's fronts are well fortified. For any one of us to get from here to an outright win would be tedious and take a damned long time. So this would be a good point at which to declare a three-way shared victory / draw.

This is what gets my vote. Would either of you agree to this?

My proposal for the future is that we use the six-player rules for Diplo, in which Italy is not used. That way 1. nobody needs to get the shaft, and 2. the difficulty of reaching the correct number of interested players is reduced.
