Testing something else: what happens when I have both a most recent blog post and a most recent forum post, and then change my username?

This:

I probably should've kept track of whether it was norttest4 or norttest1, but I think it had the avatar... hm.

Aha. So. I changed my username back to norttest1, and:

I think that means the things up top go by original username — and that the original username for this account is considered to be norttest4, even though I registered it under norttest1. (But it didn't become fully considered an account until the name change, as I mentioned before.)

Current username: norttest2.
Original username: norttest1.

The norttest1 that has the most recent blog post is this account; the norttest1 that has the most recent forum post is the one that posted above. (Two different accounts displaying as one.) After I make this post, the most recent forum post will show up as by norttest2, but the most recent blog post will show up as by norttest1. (The same account displaying two different ways.)

And it is so.

I still don't get the username overlap thing, but this has gotten confusing enough, so I'm not going to prod at that with these accounts tonight.

Here's the missing piece of logic: when you create a profile page, it's associated with your user account using ID numbers. The name on the profile page normally updates only when you edit it.

I'll work on code to auto-update profile pages, and switch avatars to rely user ID numbers instead of usernames.

Are you done with your test accounts? I can delete them if so, just to keep things clean.

Go ahead, sounds like you've got an idea of what's going on with that class of bugs so me prodding at them wouldn't accomplish much

the dithering looks very much like visual snow

thank you for raising consciousness about victims of visual snow. we're not *all* degenerate acid-burnouts.

I would like to propose you've both got terrible gamma settings on your monitors—even at maximum brightness I can only see a tiny bit of temporal dithering in the pigeon's shadow.

Eh, okay. There's a bit on the shadows on the window on the right, but it's not that big of a deal. (Also, I know that feel—I have a nigh-professional reputation for desecrating cinematography through overanalysis.)
