I created a concountry (Tundria, or rather its Hungarian equivalent Tündérország = Fairy Country) at age 7 or so. Its principal language (Tundrian) came after, in my mid teens, when I discovered the pleasures of Romance languages, and decided to make my own. A full grammar and extensive dictionary are online on my web site.  What books do I read? Fiction (science-fiction, classics, other stuff, preferably in the original - I am reading Murakami in Japanese right now), linguistics,  archeology, history, anything that grabs my fancy. What did I study in school? Mathematics, physics, linguistics, languages, librarianship.

"What got you interested in world design?"
My big pet project, which I've been working on for upwards of eight years now. In the latter half of those eight years, designing Rahturi became a distinct priority (before then, it was just a "different world" with premodern technology and such).

"What kind of books do you read?"
I don't really read books. I watch movies and TV, and play video games. Most of the books I do read (which aren't very many) are educational.

"What did you study in school?"
I'm studying game development. Recently though I've been thinking it over, as I'm not a fan of the heavy business aspects of the video game industry, and I don't think I'd mentally survive in that world. So I'm probably going to go for linguistics instead because language has always been easy for me; I might also go for a history major.

I'm more into conlanging than conworlding, because of fantasy books and the ZBB.

I have been doing world design since the early 2000s.
I like reading books that are a cross between realistic fiction and fantasy.  I'm not sure how to describe it fully, but if you read the book The Onion Girl, that pretty much sums up the genre I am into.
I have a BA in Linguistics.  I love making conlangs, and have 5 so far(3 in the same family), one of which I speak fairly well. Unfortunately, no one else speaks it.

What really got me into world design was conlanging, or creating  languages.

Physicist and Numismatist

I grew up partly in Germany, which sparked my fascination by languages, cultures, foreign currencies, and the like. While I ended up in physics for a career, I like designing banknotes, maps, passports, and the like and tend to come up with countries and languages to have excuses for such. Hobbies include numismatics, travel, and video games.

I've had an interest in the social sciences for as long as I can remember, and linguistics has been a primary interest of mine for some years. I have made a few languages, of varying completeness. I very much like history, and have created many worlds, both very similar to and very different from our own.
