...it actually means "it is useless to speculate about situations incompatible with the present circumstances," but it's all the same ballpark. Wiktionary has a rather bluntly-titled page [http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/if_my_aunt_had_balls,_she%27d_be_my_uncle|devoted to the adage] and similar, of which English has a number, for no readily discernible reason.

Well hop to it, people! If something really lousy happens we can always re-negotiate—and there are always other cities/civilizations/cultures.

How can I fix the phonology page to better represent the idea that voiced and unvoiced forms are interchangeable?
Tolkien vocally opposed Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party prior to the Second World War, and was known to especially despise Nazi racist and anti-Semitic ideology. In 1938, the publishing house Rütten & Loening Verlag was preparing to release The Hobbit in Nazi Germany. To Tolkien's outrage, he was asked beforehand whether he was of Aryan origin. In a letter to his British publisher Stanley...

Bugs and missing features (2014-03-17 01:54:49) :
I sort of have plans for a pronunciation thing, but it would be auto-generated by sound changer rules, and permit manual overrides for irregularity just like the inflection tables. (The feature creep factor is strong with this one, oh yes.)

As Ness said, the table tags are derived directly from their HTML counterparts. The letter "d" as an abbreviation for "data" is typical of the jargon used in the HTML standards. (There's another tag, <dd>, which means definition data, fo...

A Minimal Model for Human and Nature Interaction :
A recent story on Slashdot pointed out [http://www.atmos.umd.edu/~ekalnay/pubs/handy-paper-for-submission-2.pdf|a paper that looks at human population cycles in terms of environmental availability] as a predator-prey relationship. Supposedly it was meant as a commentary on the present economic climate, but it is... uniformly lacking in that department. It's missing a lot of important parameters and assumes constant values for things that fluctuate all the time. (Watch out for section 5.3,...
