Request for calendars (2014-02-20 14:43:26) :
Hmm... Guess we're gonna need to be able to insert/delete special years, too. Oi moi. Okay.

Request for calendars :
The current plan for Atlas's calendar system consists of the following:
a) the user may choose to use the Gregorian calendar, OR:
b) the user may specify their own calendar with the following features:
  - a single repeating week,
  - the names of the days of the weeks,
  - a series of months (each with names and lengths),
  - years are assembled by specifying a list of months (e.g. for Gregorian, there are two years, distinguished by which version...

Request for calendars (2014-02-19 19:08:47) :
One should be able to specify sequences of days, weeks, months, years, and sets of holidays, but be able to have these sequences change at different points. This is important because, in Real Life, rulers often arbitrarily changed calendars at points, especially in ancient times but as recent as in early modern times, and yet one would want to be able to arbitrarily change the calendar however one wants.
Holidays will be flexible, but not the whole calendar system (e...
The traditional Japanese calendar? If I ever work on that Ralts-line conlang I often mention, they'll use that.
...I'm not sure what this is supposed to mean exactly; Japan used Chinese-derived systems until consistent contact with the west and then adopted the Gregorian calendar plus 660 years (kōki/kigen). Did you have some specific system in mind?

I expect the system will be sophisticated enough to support specifying the whole Gregorian calendar, as wel...

Bugs and missing features (2014-02-18 11:39:40) :
Weird—it's fine on my end. Will have to look into that.

Bugs and missing features (2014-02-16 02:24:48) :
Changed universe removal to require text input confirmation rather than deletion of children, and enabled automatic removal of corresponding groups. (Yaali's idea.)

Bugs and missing features (2014-02-16 02:23:57) :
Note to self: eventually add tools for transferring content between universes elegantly, as Cev suggested.

Universe and Language Management: Planning (2014-02-15 04:52:26) :
I noticed the subfamily feature, but there's as of yet no way to put languages in subfamilies.
...in fact what you created was a Language. The "create subfamily" page did the wrong thing! I've fixed it and corrected "Lo" to be a Language Family, as it should've been.

EDIT: Fixed another language family bug; they weren't displaying dictionaries.

Bugs and missing features (2014-02-15 00:04:20) :
Fixed new post notification bugs, both caused by loading pages elsewhere on the site and the double-refresh on the forum index page bug. This brings us down to one major forum-specific issue—the iffy logic that decides how to present a thread with new posts when you jump into it.

As a side-effect of the new post notification fix, recent new post notifications were skipped. (You'll have to check the threads by hand; sorry!)

I think the user list shouldn't distinguish between uppercase first letters and lowercase ones?
Fixed!

Personally I see the most potential for two distinct ethnicities—a population native to the mountains to the north, and maybe a plains or forest-dwelling folk coming up from the south or east.

Fixed the link to the markup guide. (Oops.)

And yes, without a profile page the site can't calculate how long it's been since your last visit!

The guide should look less squashed in general now.

Forumworld (2014-02-10 00:41:56) :
Sorry about the buggy pages, Torco. They should no longer puke. (The new wiki page code displays a notice when it's empty, and that notice had to be adjusted so it could handle authors without user profiles correctly. All better!)

Yeah, that is also a possibility; by design the site notifies you when something has been edited. I need to do a thorough revisiting of all things related to new forum post indicators.
