Yeaaaaahhhhhh, I'll get to that eventually. Sorry updates have been so weedy lately; I've been really overwhelmed at work and elsewhere. I've known about that particular problem for almost two weeks, which is why one of the news articles has a bunch of test comments on it.

...since having an actual downtime thread would be a bit inauspicious I'm just going to apologise for Annie's lugubriousness this morning here. I'm not exactly sure what happened; the problem resolution method consisted of "restart apache2.service and mysql.service until things return to normal," which is rarely evidence of a well-comprehended problem. dmesg mumbled something vague about apache being out of memory, which makes me think we may've just hit on some bug—obviously whatever happened w...

Economists: the worst people ever? (2014-07-01 02:46:57) :
Quality control in biology has been a hot topic for the last couple of years, largely in the wake of several prominent fraud cases (e.g. human cloning), rising proficiency in Photoshop (e.g. doctored gel images), and [http://www.nature.com/news/scientific-method-statistical-errors-1.14700|shots fired regarding the use and abuse of the almighty p-value]. However, I don't think any of the estimates on flawed or improper research in biology can hope to hold a candle to the abomination reported here...

Farewell. Hope to see you again when you're feeling more confident. Some day you'll realize that long large portions of the gentry got by without really contributing anything except demented opinions, and just accept that there's nothin' wrong with hangin' around for the sake of hangin' around.

[quote]This study reports the results of a survey of professional, mostly academic economists about their research norms and scientific misbehavior. Behavior such as data fabrication or plagiarism are (almost) unanimously rejected and admitted by less than 4% of participants. Research practices that are often considered “questionable,” e.g., strategic behavior while analyzing results or i...

Lilitika has "nohenéú" for "still." It means 'even now.' 'Even' is an important word also.
