Anthologica Diplomacy -- Winter Edition (2014-12-14 05:11:03) :
The hysterical party confirms that it is to be England's caretaker government going forward. It has issued a statement that it understands its ascendence in the recent election is likely to meet with a chilly reaction from the continent, for obvious reasons, but that it hopes it will be permitted a chance to show that its fall from grace in Italy three years ago was a long time ago in a galaxy far away.

Oh, you're IRL-serious about this hatred stuff? I hadn't realized.

Just keep in mind it says more about you than it does about me.

Anthologica Diplomacy -- Winter Edition (2014-11-25 07:20:15) :
I have had a chance to reflect further on the situation, and I've come to the conclusion that despite feeling otherwise most of the time, I may not currently be emotionally fit to cope with some of the realities of this game. I hope I can be forgiven for having signed up in the first place; it's not always obvious what one will and will not be able to deal with gracefully.

My apologies, and I wish Zayk well in his... interesting... new task.

In the event he is unwilling or a re...

Hmm, well. Not necessarily a bad idea. I will think about it for a bit (I promise not to take too long).

Anthologica Diplomacy -- Winter Edition (2014-11-24 19:58:51) :
I have been begged to reconsider.

I have little enough interest in continuing, so I set my price high: for the fall I will order A (Ven) S A (Alb) - Tri, F (Ion) - Adr, and F (Nap) - Ion. If all of these moves succeed (including annihilation of the fleet presently in Trieste) and no non-Italian units remain in (or have entered) Piedmont or Tyrolia, then I will continue. If any order fails or any involved party refuses, then y'all can do your best to drag some dimwit into sending ...

Well!

So it turns out that Nae and Miekko are just as tightly allied as in the game a year ago, and that they have decided to get their revenge on me for events from that game. That's contrary to the spirit of the game and below the belt even by Diplo's low standards. But very well; consider your revenge gotten.

Time for mine: left without anything remaining in the game to do, and lacking any in-game means to react, I am forced to go below the belt as well and instead hereby p...

Anthologica Diplomacy -- Winter Edition (2014-11-22 01:43:48) :
Policy question for the GM: Would you accept conditional retreat instructions during main phases? For example, if Austria, anticipating events, had added to his Fall 1901 orders "Also if Rumania is dislodged retreat it to Serbia if possible or Galicia otherwise" - would that be acceptable? It wouldn't have mattered this time, but it could mean fewer whole-day retreat phases needed in the future.

Zayk? Nessari? CQ? Yaali? Perhaps Nae would be interested if he knew of it? What about inviting Yatalac? Too bad Rhetorica is presumably not interested/available, as she'd probably be good at this game.

Is English in the early stages of losing pronoun case and verb concordance? (2014-10-01 03:19:29) :
"Prescriptivist wisdom" - well it's certainly prescriptivism, but it matters what kind, as evidenced by the fact we all tolerate spelling prescriptivism just fine. Those of you who use this construction seem to feel that it's a matter of grammar, and that the rule against using it is in the same class as e.g. not splitting infinitives.  I.e. language prescriptivism. But it is meant to be manners prescriptivism - in the same class as saying "thank you" when someone does something nice for yo...
There's also the infamous "Me and him went to the store", which is the default construction for everyone but pedants by now.
Gods it's been a long time since we discussed this, but the short version is the object pronoun forms are also nouns; I remember that Zompist was a stick in the mud on the issue and wouldn't be convinced (surprise surprise) by any heap of evidence shown to him, I want to say by Radius? My recall of any more details is nonexistent.
