Grimm (Twabs' Grand Unified Database of Sound Changes) :
....is a project I'm working on.

Born out of the habitual desire to have an easy way to answer the questions "what can I do with...", "how can I get...", and "what does... do to...", I have decided to compile a database of all sound changes, and create a tool to search any part of it. Because the Index Diachronica, for all its advantages, isn't indexed, and it notably doesn't talk about things like frequency of specific sound changes, which I feel should be an important part of this pro...

Editing is, I think, fully implemented. You can add new entries, and you can edit entries that show up in your results list.

I will probably start moving stuff over from the spreadsheet soon.

I've seen the searchable Index. I'm hoping to provide more functionality, though—for example, allowing one to search source and/or result, showing the most relevant changes first, grouping changes by the change itself rather than by family, allowing editing, etc.

As the curator of the Index, I'd love to help any way I can.

By way of news related to the Index, chri d. d. has created a searchable online version of the (as well as rendering the latest version in XeLaTeX so it is now Unicode-compliant), and a reddit user is working on a database version using JSON. I also hope to release Version 11.0 sometime this weekend.

Cyrillic question/advice (2016-07-29 18:36:04) :
Yes! But not sideways. While Googling I found a lot of examples of ü drawn like that, but none of the older samples I'd previously seen of the umlaut clearly inside or overlaid (with a slight negative margin cut into the letter, as if someone had taken two bites from it) on the letter. Personally, I think either would be a lot more legible than rotating it.

Cyrillic question/advice (2016-07-29 17:47:03) :
That cyrillic D is a neat solution, either way! Also, Rhet, from what you're describing, I thought more of something like [http://www.typografie.info/3/uploads/6964162bfd7806acfa119ef2bed40071.png|this]. There, the dots are actually inside the O.

Cyrillic question/advice (2016-07-29 15:29:15) :
Peanut gallery response of no critical import: this looks amazing. Most attempts at geometric constructivist typography start with something similar, but they never turn out terribly well; in particular, designers tend to get upset about the tipsy look of the S.

I wouldn't bend head over heels to worry about readability, as it makes perfect sense that some of the characters would be rendered horribly on a device being pushed near its limits, especially a) if it were imported or b) if it...

Cyrillic question/advice :
this isn't quite a conlang thing but i thought this might be a good place to ask. i'm working on a type set based around a segmented display similar to what you might see on alarm clocks, calculators, etc, but with more segments:

so i did a character set for latin letters, numbers, punctuation, etc.:

basically the idea is that it's something you might see on a display screen in some cyberpunk...

Since I won't be going to Latin Camp by Opus Dei this autumn, I'll reaffirm my commitment to play. H13, you can stay judge.

We could always try a new map if we wanted- there are plenty of well-balanced Diplo variants out there.

<CUM_SIURAN> becuase it meant they would be taxed
<Slereah_> Maybe they dressed up as indians and threw tea in the harbor

It appears to me that we still have only half the requisite number of people saying yes. Should we start advertising in channel?

Granted there is a variant ruleset for six players that doesn't use Italy, and if everyone is down for that I say we should go for it, because getting stuck with Italy is even worse than getting stuck with Austria. At least with Austria if you get hosed you generally die fast, whereas the perennial fate of Italy is a slow lingering failure to either succeed OR...

I had never heard of this band before. I found this song because it was uploaded by the same person who uploaded a Marillion song. I love this song already and I suspect I'm going to love listening to the rest of this band's music.
