Loanwords (2014-11-09 03:24:23) :
Additionally remember that in an expansionist and/or colonial empire loanwords are likely to sneak in from the territories. Languages also seem to have their own character in how easily they accept loanwords, from Mandarin's [2% loanwords] "native compounds can describe the concept better than your barbarian original" to English's [75%] "give us all your vocabulary in used notes and don't even think about pressing that alarm"[plus]Yes, these characters tend to stem in a large part from ide...

Possible bug: I'm getting messages when someone comments on prettydragoon's [#214259|Religion and Mythology], saying
[box]USER posted a reply to [http://anthologi.ca/index.star?id=214259|Religion and Mythology] (Project: [http://anthologi.ca/index.star?id=252|Šaol]):[/box]
(just in case it needs to be said, USER is whichever username, with a /?Username url.)
Now I don't think I've ever had a page named that, but I could be wrong. I'm curious what wires got crosse...
I don't know if this has been reported yet, or if this is considered a bug (I'd rather not read through the past thirty pages), but the inline notes show up in the lower left corner of the browser window for me. (This is in Firefox 33.0 on Kubuntu 14.10) This is a problem largely because I can't see what the note says if it's linked to something, because the link location covers up the note.
That was a workaround for some issues when an inline note e...

I would like people who know to help with making a list of the """Standard""" reference grammars of various languages. I would like to have this information so that I can put them in the... the thing. Obviously I'm not talking about the "best" grammars, but rather the most "authoritative" ones, the ones that are cited as being THE grammar, etc. This'll partly overlap with the thread about grammars that don't dick you around, but I'd prefer to have these separate, esp. since you may know of some ...

Loanwords :
How much of a language's vocabulary should be loanwords (both directly and derived through SC)? I know there's no direct answer, but I'd like to hear a good range, as well as anything I should take into consideration.
