Untrw. I have RTFSed, but I have not gotten around to trying to implement it!

But now I feel sufficiently insulted to have to try to prove my Badness, which has resulted in a hilariously wrongheaded attempt that is on exhibit at beta.anthologi.ca until later today when I do the second wrong-headed attempt.

(Also, Octavia does not do preg_quote, does it?)

ADD INCHES TO YOUR DICTIONARY OVERNIGHT (2014-10-28 13:53:49) :
I generally just translate or compose texts and create words as necessary in transit, adding derived forms as I go. I’ve always thought this approach made the most sense: you get words as you need them, you simultaneously puzzle out any uncertain syntax, you get attestations of all your words, you can incorporate cultural points of interest, and you have the beginnings of a con-literary-tradition.

Otherwise, the old standby Swadesh list and its ilk are standard points to begin from, if ...

ADD INCHES TO YOUR DICTIONARY OVERNIGHT (2014-10-28 13:52:20) :
My conworlding is like 33.3% creating new lexicon. And that lexicon is created to explain things (like historical events) I deal with in my "conworld articles", so it's mainly about etymologies and evolutionary linguistics. Due to that I'm currently focusing on protolangs, so I can derive words for various languages that now have pretty narrow and limited vocabularies.
I distinguish, though, between 'creating lexicon' and 'padding lexicon'. To me the latter means the art of cr...

I was comparatively lucky. I've never had a particularly low voice, and I've always played around with it as a norm, so once I started working on it seriously I got results, though they were admittedly sporadic until this last week due to my brain being screwy with recall ability (I'd do perfect intonation and timbre, then immediately forget everything about how I'd done it; note that this is different from not knowing how I did it in the first place).

Grrr Thread (2014-10-28 11:31:16) :
Actual Grr:

So after a ~2 week hiatus, I took one vyvanse pill on Sunday (my scrip is 3/day), and had an amazingly productive day. Thinking I'd be cautious, I took one again yesterday. It worked during the day, but after I got to work it wore off and what I can only describe as withdrawal symptoms started kicking in. Mild ones, to be sure (they culminated with me walking into oncoming traffic on the way home :/ ), but enough to get me to do stuff. Specifically to swear off this crap ent...

Fair. I do all my real typing on a full keyboard, so autocorrect is totally alien to me.

Facial hair is the WOOOOOOOOORST. I hate my voice though. I went to see a therapist but she was disturbingly ugly - not the sort of shit I normally say, but she was very corpulent, and had terrifyingly bulging eyes.

But nah, it's more like

I got called ma'am twice on the phone today (I work in a pizzeria call center). It registered, but I didn't take any special note of either until later on.

My voice is right now. In person I'm being correctly-gendered about a fifth of the time, more like 90% of the time at night (freaking facial hair…can't wait 'til I can afford electrolysis).

Today I'm going down to my doc's office to pick up the necessary paperwork to get the gender change court order (the neanderthals in c...

Weird, yes, but I would also categorize it as somewhat predictable. La cosa nostra is for sure seen as "alternative belief" by norms. (my coinage for non-con-thing-ers) I'm sure Torco might agree.

Thx Morrígan...I've been passively following your blog. Pretty girls have all the fun. ;)
