Grrr Thread (2014-10-01 11:25:50) :
So i recently realized IPA Zounds is dead... this both means i hadn't conlanged in a long time, and also that all things are fleeting and get washed away by time. I feel like someone being told that their old neighbourhood is now parking space for a shopping mall.

Phonologization Thread :
This thread is intended to be a reverse romanization thread: you post an orthography and people make up possible pronunciations / phonologies for it. This will probably quickly become a guessing game but I am sure there are people like me who like written glossolalia, for whom this thread may actually be useful.

Is English in the early stages of losing pronoun case and verb concordance? (2014-10-01 03:19:29) :
"Prescriptivist wisdom" - well it's certainly prescriptivism, but it matters what kind, as evidenced by the fact we all tolerate spelling prescriptivism just fine. Those of you who use this construction seem to feel that it's a matter of grammar, and that the rule against using it is in the same class as e.g. not splitting infinitives. I.e. language prescriptivism. But it is meant to be manners prescriptivism - in the same class as saying "thank you" when someone does something nice for yo...

Besides, MLA style page formatting looks terrible. Those ragged left margins, ew. Their prescriptions seem to stem from the time when you still wrote your shit on a typewriter. Because it makes sense there.

happiness thread (2014-09-30 22:37:24) :
yet more happy: i just had a blunt and ruminated on comparative semantics and how to make a good lexicon for an hour. i don't know if the ideas i came up with make remotely any sense but it sure was fun.
