Some day, some day... I will get to this, once my academic workload quiets down. There seemed to be more interest in the automatic morphology and diachronics stuff, though, so that's going to come first—again once academia regresses and Morrígan has gotten a bit more time to play with her SCA s'more.

Derivation ideas (2014-09-08 05:41:46) :
What ever happened with the quest for weird derivations? Did you ever consider weird subverbs or qualifier verbs? (I don't really see anything too out-of-the-ordinary in the Proto-Søkkli dictionary.) Relatedly, the last new dictionary entry for P-Søkkli and Sèćli were both about a month ago; do you have any more plans to continue developing the proto-language, or do you expect to focus only on the daughter languages now?

Turtle Power! (2014-09-08 05:36:08) :
I've decided to go on a posting spree to see what happens... and this is where I'm going to start.

The last time we talked privately about Šaol stuff, you were looking at Salanjan grammar. What sort of plans do you have for developing the other cultures on the world, such as those of the *Far Isles?

Also, I know you still have a lot of deep background world-formation stuff that hasn't been written up or posted anywhere. Any thoughts on when we'll see that?
Is there a way to get the SCA to spit out all the intermediate changes? (Words should not have two tones and I am not sure where I fucked up.)
Not really, though I've thought about that. I can include a [tt]BREAK[/tt] command to terminate parsing in the middle of a file, so you can easily stop it without having to comment out half the file. Also, I could put in a lot of debug statements, since I'm using slf4j and just have it print a log.

Hopefully tho...

Here's a little game I was playing with myself in the car earlier. (n.b. I always play with myself in the car.) Go through a whole bunch of languages and name the most famous movie ("famous" to modern anglophones, that is) that is primarily in that language.

Arabic - I have no fucking clue. In fact, I think the only Arabic-language movie I can even name is this one movie called The Band's Visit that made a few waves in the indie-cum-arthouse scene a few years ago. I think it was ...
