Forked from [#35522|Pretty Scripties Showcase].

Speaking of conlang relays... I'm somewhat of the mind that we may want to start one here. Setting up regular medium-sized challenges seems to be a good way to maintain momentum. Anyone interested?

Relays and challenges! :
And... moved. I'm also thinking of doing monthly conlang challenges; not a relay, per se, but a regular writing exercise devoted to a given topic. I'd probably do it in a hierarchical format like a blog or something.

Lust is a subtype of gluttony when you have a lot of lust, obviously!

But, really, Ubuntu isn't merely a subtype of Debian. It's also about envying shiny first-world desktop operating systems. An envy... one might even call lusty. Or maybe it's envy. Who can even really tell these days?

Really tho the PNW's dialect differences from everywhere else are damn subtle…I usually don't even notice them until we're discussing things and oddities emerge, and thankfully often enough Rad is able to confirm things so it's not just me being bizarre. They're also not usually pronunciation-based; so far as that goes the only difference from more eastern forms of GA is our /u:/ is only weakly centralized, if at all ...

I often notice the west coast seems to conserve /iː/ where I'd expect an unstressed vowel to be (particularly in front of nasals)—but every time I bring this up it seems to be more spotty and isolated.

In my experience, if someone says "I need to use the washroom" when they're at home it's an attempt to be polite. Washrooms seem like inherently more formal places than bathrooms.

EDIT: Also, if Cascadia secedes, we're donating southern Alberta back to Texas. To hell with ...

Yeah, my Californian friends say that, aside from a few distinctly Canadian vowels, I pretty much sound Californian.

Haven't yet seen these round here, but then, I haven't really been out. Just to the mall for shopping food and getting a new phone this morning and to campus this afternoon.

A thing to make sure with Relays, though, is that people actually send their torches. Also, some backup mechanism if someone drops out.

If it's any consolation, in much of Northern England, "bear" sounds rather back-vowel-y.
