If time is important to you, I recommend The Nimrod Flipout: Stories by Etgar Keret. They're short stories, and they're strangely moving: surreal, funny and sad all at the same time. I haven't read it yet, but I'm told The Bus Driver Who Wanted to Be God and Other Stories by the same author is even better.

I would like to propose you've both got terrible gamma settings on your monitors—even at maximum brightness I can only see a tiny bit of temporal dithering in the pigeon's shadow.

Here's the problem. You've got two versions, one a descendant of the other. Except writing systems, even with recognized ancient antecedents, go through a huge amount of drift and simplification dozens if not hundreds of variations, before they even become widely used. So your traditional alphabet/syllabary symbols would have really been the starting point of the evolution, not the system found in the heyday of the First Empire, really.

Also, post here if you have any other comments or questions about the appearance and layout of forum posts. (I have a number of outstanding issues already, such as merging the template with the one used for comments elsewhere on the site, and fixing the post offset when jumping...
