Huh? My avatar is a PNG. The server thinks it's a JPEG, but browsers do not really care about the extension or the MIME type.

In that case, the information on the avatar-uploading page is outdated. Because that still says that only JPEGs are accepted as avatars (my Gravatar is a PNG, too, and that's not a problem).

Gravatar does actual format conversion if asked, so I'm not completely certain it's the same thing. And, yes, the only constraint this whole time on avatar formats has been that I was too lazy to record the file extension properly, which any Imgur user will tell you is an insignificant formality. Go forth and abuse translucency, my children!

Another issue: it is difficult to find the author of a universe after entering its page.
(For example, I see no mention of vidurnaktis on this page nor any of its child-pages.)

I wanted to shy away from that because I don't like the idea of polluting universe pages with site interface stuff—it kinda goes against the spirit of giving as much control to the user as possible. But, as a trial run, I've added a bunch of stuff to the universe pages themselves, e.g. Akana. Anyone wanna chime in with complaints or change requests?

These changes in the Universes' front pages (image and data) are OK. They interact well with the rest of the page's stuff.

Added thumbnailing for user avatars. Because... yeah. It looks mediocre on my iPhone, but I think it's an overall win.

Isn't that just your avatar being bad?

The white halo is, yes, but not the black background. The thumbnailer doesn't dig transparency... because it was in JPEG mode. Switched to PNG. Let's see what happens!

Can we have an extra field in the dictionary entries for extra information?

I don't think we need an additional field, really. Attestation could be made slightly more generic. And frankly I've been tending to put incertae sedis material in the Usage block, or after periods in the definition (so they don't clog up the dictionary pages).

What is 'attestation' for anyway?

Anyway, we should probably have a field specifically for things like inflection category.

Attestation is example sentences, basically. For extra feel you would add literary sources (may not be applicable for many languages).

I use 'attestation' to show how the entry word is represented in its original language, and 'related words' for the descendants of that entry word.

That's what Part of Speech is for.

Even arbitrary subdivisions of noun declensions based on the ablaut of the root?

Like I said, it's 'cause I went overlong on the subtitle. Also present on Sino-Tibetan.

What's the problem there?

Alas, that happens on the mobile layout with even moderately lengthy titles.

For identifying inflectional schemes I strongly recommend people use a tag; the SCA will recognize tags when deciding what to do with words.

Personally I've mostly used the attestation field to list dates when a word was popular, but citing literary sources is the most typical/correct application.

The Anthologica header image, the page title, and the subtitle are all in the same box. When one gets too long to fit between the quick links and the user box, it shifts them downwards.
