In 1969, the first manned mission to the moon landed successfully. Then, in 1996, the first manned mission to Mars achieved equal success. Humanity has come a long way since then, expanding to cover hundreds of habitable words, as well as thousands more generation ships with stable habitats which many choose to call home.
Interstellar political entities prove to be unstable, very few lasting even a century. Instead, solar systems, planets, parts of planets, and generation ships tend to form their own governments and protect their own best interests above all else. Unique cultures, too, develop on disparate worlds, with people following their own customs, believing in their own religions, and speaking their own languages (though most are descendants of English, Spanish, Mandarin, Russian and Egyptian Arabic) rather than adopting any sort of interstellar lingua franca.
This, combined with the longevity of humanity (modern humans continue to thrive for over 20,000 years after inventing spaceflight) makes any thorough catalogue of the history of human civilisation since Apollo 11 an impossible task, and one which we will not attempt here. Rather, we will endeavor to present a few parts of that history, in the hopes that they may be of interest to the reader.
