Syllables are strictly (C)V(C). Clusters occur only intervocalically. Vowel hiatus is allowed and is phonemically distinct, in the case of high vowels, from a diphthong with a glide. Cf. <ciriaño> "in (the) heart", <ciryaño>, "in the shadow".
