The Ilian dénar (yljámádénar, or simply dénar, code YJD) is the official currency of the Ilian People's Republic. Officially divided into 100 tetrýk, due to inflation, most tetrýk coins have fallen out of circulation.

History

First Dénar (to 1978)

The Ilian Vjéta (1978–1992)

Provisional Dénar (1992–1994)

After the fall of the Ilian Empire in September 1992, one of the first aims of the new provisional government was to replace the vjéta which had rapidly depreciated due to hyperinflation. The solution to this was to, on 30 October 1992, introduce a provisional dénar.

Second Dénar (1994 to present)

The second Ilian dénar was introduced on 2 May 1994 to replace the provisional dénar.

Coins

Second Dénar

Upon the reintroduction of the dénar, coins were issued in 1, 5, 10, 25, and 50 tetrýk and 1 dénar denominations. In 1999, 5-dénar coins were introduced, followed by 10-dénar coins in 2009, 25-dénar coins in 2018 (first as a commemorative, then for circulation), and 50-dénar coins planned in 2022. The 1, 5, and 25 tetrýk coins were discontinued in 2003, with the 10 tetrýk following in 2018.

Banknotes

Second Dénar

Banknotes were issued in 1994 for 5, 10, 25, 100, and 500 dénars. In 2000, with the introduction of the 5-dénar coin, the 5-dénar note was discontinued. In 2009, due to inflation, 1000-dénar notes were issued for the first time, with 10-dénar notes discontinued the following year. The first 2500- and 5000-dénar notes were introduced in 2018, with the 25-dénar note then withdrawn and both 250-dénar and 10000-dénar notes introduced in 2019.
