The -s perfective has been lost in Rataan, but many adjectives have the resulting stop-nasal alteration fossilized: njuuək braa "cooked rice" x kanajuaŋ i braa "I cook the rice" (1-cook OBJ rice); the transitive-intransitive alternation is also no longer productive, however many commonly-used verbs still alternate: kanjuuəŋ "I am cooking" x kanajuaŋ i braa "I cook the rice".
While Proto-Ngakmea probably did have a cognate of the Mhraic copula *han, Rataan has lost it: kfuuu u çikuag "he is a shaman" (3SG SUB shaman).
The *mᵊr- causative has become a benefactive in Rataan: kamajuaŋ i braa i kfuuu "I cook the rice for him" (1-BEN-cook OBJ rice OBJ 3SG).
The 3rd person pronoun has also been replaced by the proximal deictic, with the emphasis form being backderived. The original pronoun would be **zdaaa.
