This is a very shoddily put together map for a potential alternate history of North America. As you can see, it is not yet done.

Originally, the idea was going to be that North America in the modern day is a sort of gigantic Switzerland, with Dutch, French, Spanish and English-speaking parts. I have no idea what I'm going to do with Canada, other than that Québec will probably be French, although whether or not it includes southeastern Ontario is up for debate. I have a theory that the Northwest Territories, Québec and New Holland may have partitioned Ontario.

New England and the Maritimes (capital: Halifax) are English-speaking; originally they were going to be a surviving, glorified Vinland, but I don't know how well that holds up. New York, Jersey and the Delmarva Peninsula are all Dutch-speaking (capital: Nieuw Amsterdam). Greater Virginia (Richmond) and the Northwest Territories (Cincinnati) are English-speaking. Louisiana (New Orleans) is, of course, French. California (San Francisco) and Tejas (San Antonio) are Spanish-speaking; Tejas looks quite awkward, but I wasn't sure what to do with Arizona. Perhaps Mexico kept it. In the event that one Jozep Smit was born in northern New Holland, Deseret is a Dutch-speaking region with its capital at Zoutmeerstad; otherwise I'm not sure what to do with it.

Florida south of the 30th parallel is part of Cuba.

Alaska may well still be a Russian possession. The Oregon Territory is anyone's guess.

All four languages in this scenario are dominant in their respective regions. Dutch has by far the smallest amount of territory, but the cultural and economic preeminence of New Holland, as well as its very high population density, ensure that Dutch survives and thrives.
