Wood sylphs usually worship Belassus, the (now-Imperial) god of nature. A great deal of their spirituality is based on a connection with nature. Belassans keep small gardens, pets, or even just a small area with potted plants in their home. They meditate at the beginning and each day at their ‘oasis’, communing with Belassus and Life to center themselves.

When a meisylph is born their parents perform an ancient divination to determine the child’s spirit animal. That animal will help the child, both by providing a model of useful skills and by guiding the developing sylph’s spirit. In addition, most meisylvan communities associate themselves with one of the thirteen Meika i’Shelke.

The Thirteen Groves are holy ground to Belassan meisylphs. The sprawling forest is divided roughly into thirteen biomes, each with a predominant species of tree. The massive natural magic of the area feeds into the trees, making them grow to colossal size. At the heart of the Groves lie the only known naturally growing silver oak trees. The silver oak is sacred to the druids, and no outsider is permitted under their boughs. Between the native meisylphs living everywhere in the forest and the druid wardens, the Thirteen Groves are well and violently protected.

Meisylphs often make pilgrimages to the Groves to collect a young sapling of their spirit tree. This is known as a ‘heart sapling’, and they are kept in special ritual pots. The pots help the owner commune with the tree and grant it a portion of their life energy, which sustains the tree even in a foreign environment.

Beyaloi, the faith of Belassus, focuses on mutual respect of person, dignity, and territory. It teaches that worshippers should learn from the simple ways of animals. It also teaches that worshippers should live in harmony and balance with the creatures around them and not overstep their needs.
