From vers– "origin, generation" + taraednax– "homeland" (from tar– "to run" + red– "power, might, ability" + aernax "land"), in the sense of "original homeland(s)".
The reason for the name is that the main narrative surrounding the expansionist politics of the Eleuthean Empire was that all annexed lands and peoples were, in fact, original to the Eleuthean peoples.
