So … you may have explained it before, but what are those charts depicting? I understand that historical linguistics has become increasingly influenced and informed by genetics, epidemiology and population biology over the past decades, but that still doesn't give me a clue what those charts you posted mean.

Apart from the file system acting up, that *is* rather big, though, at least regarding the file size.

By the way, you may want to search for "Trimage". It's a little program for optimizing and shrinking PNG files. Kind of useful sometimes.

OK, let's see for the whole thing. Maybe if you combine Newt's and mine, you'll get a clue of what this is about. Cause I don't have any clue and their way of citing sources without putting titles in quotes or italics and also not using any punctuation between different parts of a footnote frankly sucks.

Help wanted with German scholarly abbreviations (2015-05-10 05:26:18) :
My guess would be that it's abbreviating "das ist vers". What's unhelpful a little is that according to late 19th-century fashion, nouns aren't capitalized, so it's also less clear what that "v." is.

happiness thread (2015-05-08 17:26:04) :
It is, eh, "emoji". Because I wrote that on my phone. And it's easier to put emoticons that way than the classic punctuation symbols.

I see. I've never encountered that abbreviation in a financial context, so I was honestly thinking of a Compact Disc, not of a Certificate of Deposit. ?
Best of all, I might get $7000 from a CD i forgot I had and was turned over to the government as abandoned. So that would be nice.
That must have been an important CD, if the government is willing to pay $7000 to recover it? I mean, that sum is probably peanuts for them, but still.
