etymology: Its relation with glöglö "swearword", and the relation of this word with gorgöl "barbarian, uncivilized; blockhead, stupid", may tempt to further relate it with caul "mouth, throat, gorge" (Odh caulax), but caution is advised. From a phonetic point of view, though, caulax → glau is a perfectly possible evolution.
