The formation of Marathid languages is a well-documented phenomenon starting from as far back as the turn of the millennium. Some linguists argue that the standard dialect of Marathi, the Standard Puneri Marathi Register (SPMR), was never able to reach the masses in the first place and they were speaking various Marathid languages all along while some argue that the formation of Marathids is simply a result of various processes of linguistic evolution, and the vernacular education system's lack of control on how they changed.
