Music and language (2016-10-01 21:45:18) :
I've been doing too much math, as soon as I saw "converts easily to music" I thought to myself "can we prove that there is a bijection between the set of musical pitches and the set of all sequences of phonemes"

I didn't really deal with l/r or gm/gn. So:

gN [ɰN] > ɢN > ɢ (or q)
/k k: k:' g g: g:'/ > /ĉ č k ĵ ǰ kʼ/ (idk the exact identities, but ĉ was probably a sibilant and č an affricate)
/q q: q:' ɢ ɢ: ɢ:'/ > /q q qˤ g kʼ kʼ/

the middle stage of r r' l l' is r ṛ l ɬ, kind of

Cl' > tɬ etc. Cl > tš, Cr' > ṭṣ, Cr > ts
r'C > ṭ. rC > ṭ near high vowels, otherwise > t. l(')C > šC
r(')l > l/ḷ as above, rl' > ɬ, r'l' > ɬ...

Note to self: post Weyötiss somewhere (not here, it's more than a scratchpad)

New language: Standard Maat'l

Phonology: /e ẽ u d t b c s W Z_0 H g ɣ/. The language also has ATR harmony, although this is neutralized in the case of /ɣ Z_0 g/. /H/ is not realized, but colors neighboring consonants and vowels—however, it does not affect /ɣ/ or /g/.

Grimm (Twabs' Grand Unified Database of Sound Changes) :
....is a project I'm working on.

Born out of the habitual desire to have an easy way to answer the questions "what can I do with...", "how can I get...", and "what does... do to...", I have decided to compile a database of all sound changes, and create a tool to search any part of it. Because the Index Diachronica, for all its advantages, isn't indexed, and it notably doesn't talk about things like frequency of specific sound changes, which I feel should be an important part of this pro...

Editing is, I think, fully implemented. You can add new entries, and you can edit entries that show up in your results list.

I will probably start moving stuff over from the spreadsheet soon.

I've seen the searchable Index. I'm hoping to provide more functionality, though—for example, allowing one to search source and/or result, showing the most relevant changes first, grouping changes by the change itself rather than by family, allowing editing, etc.

I had never heard of this band before. I found this song because it was uploaded by the same person who uploaded a Marillion song. I love this song already and I suspect I'm going to love listening to the rest of this band's music.
