Grrr Thread (2015-02-21 19:25:39) :
So, while I normally like getting letters from people across the pond, I don't like getting letters saying that I didn't pay a tax bill that I know damn well I paid about 14 months ago (and can prove I paid) and that I owe more money to the French authorities. Especially when I get the letter a month after they mailed it. Hopefully me e-mailing them and saying that I already paid the bill along with the information to prove I paid it is enough and I don't have to deal with them any more.

Grrr Thread (2015-01-03 02:22:59) :
So, despite having my new passport for only about six months and it sitting in a lock box for most of that time (except when I went to Canada), the cover on it is slightly convex and won't stay flat, even after compressing it under some heavy things. It's not damaged, but I'm not wholly sure if this is a "normal" thing (I forget if it is). And I'm a smidge paranoid about making sure that it stays in pristine condition, especially with me probably going to India at some point next year and needin...

happiness thread (2014-12-22 14:16:06) :
Morrígan looks gorgeous, as always, though I'm not a huge fan of the lipstick or the glasses (I hate the look of large-rimmed glasses).

On my side, though, I back in North Carolina for vacation. I super happy.
As a fellow holder of a spurious MSc (my PhD program gives one to you as a kind of "one third of the way there!" checkpoint), welcome to the club! Again, purely as a formality.
That's actually the kind of M.S. I have: granted en route to my Ph.D., without a thesis, and not a terminal degree, but necessary for the application I made (and will be making again, because like hell I'm going to give up despite failure the first time ar...

I now have a Master's of Science degree. Granted, it's just a formality that I needed to apply for various grants, but I do have it now, so that's nice.

AFR application for funding was rejected. I no run away. I sad.

(But I'll try again in March.)

Flags (2014-11-08 01:30:44) :
Because Telèmor is European-inspired and designed, its flag and the flags of its regions will naturally be rectangular.

The national flag of the Telèmor Federation is below:

(I forget how the color scheme arose. I should come up with some symbolism.)

These are the flags of the eighteen regions (rejione).

I blame my trip to Canada's Wonderland for this being stuck in my head.

happiness thread (2014-10-19 21:42:31) :
Went to Cedar Point. Rode lots of roller coasters with minimal waits on almost all of them. Got a commemorative badge for the last operating day of the Mantis, a stand-up roller coaster that's being replaced with a floorless coaster next season. Had oodles of fun.

happiness thread (2014-10-16 02:40:25) :
Clothes shopping for me has always been very difficult, largely because I'm well below-average height for a male (5'5"/1.65 m) combined with being rather thin. In most clothing stores, finding things that I would want to wear that also happen to be in my size borders between difficult and impossible, largely why I gamble on using Amazon for most of my pants and shorts purchases.

With that out of the way, I think Morrígan looks great. Only thing I'm not really a fan of are the glasses, a...

Maps (2014-10-06 03:29:08) :
You have to find the original version to see the detail. Underlined cities are capitals; neither Cleveland nor Toledo are capitals. (Nor, for that matter, is Chicago.)

Maps (2014-10-06 02:08:41) :
Now I'm really curious as to why some of the cities on that map were picked as the "capitals". Many, like Olympia, Des Moines, and Santa Fe, make sense; they're already capitals. But Elyria? Seriously?
