Sound Change Spreadsheet Discussion Thread (2015-04-23 10:24:02) :
I guess you could use indices to indicate feed and bleed orderings, if that's the intention? I do like this idea though.

I want to write code to analyze sound changes to produce graphs of what changes are ordered relative to one another...

Car got  a flat tire so i missed therapy, gotta bring my car into the shop tomorrow, gotta go to a rescheduled therapy appointment in the middle of the day and miss work or pay them $80. Kind of flipped out, did some self-harm stuff worse than I have in a long time. Work is mad stressful, I just have a LOT to do and I'm not sleeping well and having to work a lot of 9-10 hour days.

The good news is that I'm getting close to releasing a new version of the SCA, gonna get proper photog...

Addendum: Future Work :
I've also been thinking about building a UI - I realize I've said in the past that I didn't see a point. Certainly for the purposes of running rule files, a UI is useless at best, and a hindrance at worst.

However there is substantial value in building what is essentially an IDE. Even something as simple as editing a rules file with syntax highlighting[note]where the editor knows what symbols are defined as variables, for instance[/note], and executing the file would be a good us...

Ah! Interesting, I'll have to go back and read up on it more. I wasn't aware of /j/'s deletion. I've been out of the IE game too long, man.

Sound Change Appliers (2015-01-11 14:21:30) :
I have a serious question concerning how the SCA is started and runs:
* Basic - user provides input,  output, and rule file at startup
* Enhanced - user only provides rule file; input and outputs are specified within the rules

The current situation leaves us with an uncomfortable state of affairs,  for technical reasons. The problem is that in "basic" mode, the whole rule file is parsed before loading the lexicon, so if the user messes about with normalization or segme...

Really I feel like periodization of most European languages is generally well known, neither the "Middle" or "Old" in for Spanish and French for example. MHG is much more interesting, being contemporaneous with the "Old" Romance language. Like when Old Spanish had 3 pairs of sibilants.

Also, I forgot that OHG doesn't have umlaut yet! That's kind of a major development.

Looking for a cheap android of some kind. leaning toward Samsung or Huawei. Friend of mine from Australia has a Huawei phone, she's quite happy with it, so if I can get a reasonable one for cheaper, I might do that.

Good luck getting a new phone J

uh fuck, thats awful. I'm using Lubuntu on my chromebook, which is nice so far, but Im afraid I can't speak to the usefulness of this for anything with actual GPUs in it. I used to use Mint on my old netbook, but honestly I did not love it.

So close to going on vacation. So fucking close. A friend of mine defended last night though, that was cool. And he showed me  paper on why you shouldn't residualize your data before doing a linear mixed-effects model.
