Test thread! (2014-09-02 13:36:19) :
I feel like I've had problems with \b in the past.

anarcho-fasci[sm]
how does that even work
Americans call it "libertarianism"
BURRRRRRRRN true story though.

Actually, Objectivism might be closer to the fitting a description like anarcho-fascism.

I have the processing model set up to use file-handles :) already.

right now you load one lexicon and it gets run through DEFAULT. But the lexicons are actually stored in a map, even though there is only one of them right now. I'm interesting in letting users do a couple of things, like:
* [tt]EXECUTE[/tt] other rule files, which just does what that rule file does in a separate process;
* [tt]IMPORT[/tt] other rule files, which basically inserts those rules into your current rul...

That's an interesting idea, but it also means that both sets have to have the same number of entries. That might be a reasonable extension of the approach under discussion. I've already created a ticket for this on Github.

Syllable-break detection is an interesting problem. I think providing a syllable template would give us a good place to start. The biggest problem is that none of my tools actually handle supersegmental features correctly, or know what a syllable is.

The Historical Linguistics Thread (2014-08-29 12:51:51) :
Not to derail the thread, but I decided to make (what used to be) Kuma-Koban to Centum because I really wanted to split the labiovelars and decided it was too unrealistic to be as much of a Centum-Satem hybrid as it was - also, I decided I didn't really like the way RUKI affected the language.

So I decided it would be Centum, but later experience secondary palatalization of the plain velars in a somewhat Satem-esque manner. I'll start a thread, eventually.

If it makes you feel any better, Kuma-Koban had tɕʰ tɕ dʑ as reflexes of the palatovelars, and I don't give a shit. I'm gonna change it, but because I decided to make it Centum.

Grrr Thread (2014-08-28 23:19:37) :
So apparently getting a legal name change (in NY) is more involved than I was lead to believe. I don't just need a petition, but also an Application for Judicial Index Number and a Request for Judicial Intervention (in triplicate). To make things worse, these forms don't make any sense, like as in I don't understand what needs to go where.

On the other hand, I took the day off, so I got to have lunch with one of my friends who I haven't really hung out with in a while. So it was ok, ove...

I don't think it should be hard to add that functionality, but I'm not sure what is a good way to do it. Unless I do something like in regex, maybe like
(C)(N) > $2$1
Or specifying a particular metathesis rule, but the above has more general applicability.

Yeah, so nevermind that won't work, I didn't think hard enough about how thing would like up. However
Cn Cm > nC mC
will work, as long as you enumerate one of the sets.

Sound Change Appliers (2014-08-26 20:35:08) :
I'll check that out. It should keep them lined up, but I haven't really tested this. It might be worth making a special case for metathesis. Basically, it should generate all combinations (which is why it's slow), but that should keep both sides lined up; I guess not quite.

Sound Change Appliers (2014-08-26 20:16:08) :
as in CN > NC ? Because that rule right there should cover a lot of cases. Only problem is that it might be slow.

That depends on what you need it to do. It lets you do some things trivially.

Also, Notepad++ is totally boss.

Ok, congratulations, I was able to reproduce the error. Your file is encoded as Big Endian UCS-2. I don't really want to require people to use UTF-8, but these fixed-size encodings can be trouble.

Sound Change Appliers (2014-08-26 11:47:22) :
It might be a bad UTF-8 BOM but line breaks shouldn't ever be an issue. The command is getting trimmed and then split on [tt]\s+=\s+[/tt]. Now, that probably should use [tt]\s*[/tt], but that's not an issue for what we are doing here.

Sound Change Appliers (2014-08-26 09:30:07) :
No, you need to attach the rules file itself. I think there is an encoding problem, because I cannot reproduce this error when you just copy-paste the content.

happiness thread (2014-08-26 00:46:40) :
Wow, 72 is good. That's like dead-on normal. I think I started around 700, and was at 500 two appointments  and maybe 4-5 months ago. Down to 300 last time, about 2 months ago, and they changed from 2 to 3mg estradiol daily. I don't have another appointment until 15 October, so hopefully by then, things will have settled down.

Sound Change Appliers (2014-08-26 00:24:32) :
Can you attach the actual rules file? I'm totally unable to reproduce this problem, but it's failing during the parse. That error means that when the string K = k g ng is split on [tt]\s*=\s*[/tt], the result has more or less than 2 parts. Normally, there should be exactly 2, K and k g ng. This error message is slightly better than the one that was originally produced, which is just an IndexOutOfBoundsException.

How the hell. I already fixed that. Just a minute.

Somehow I lost the change that fixed this before. Anyway, I fixed it again and pushed the changes. I've also set up to create branches so I can compartmentalize the code changes for various functionalities.

I fixed a lot of bugs and made sure things worked the way they are supposed to. I'll be working on a few more things, but I created a project on Github

and you can grab the executable jar from https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0yPt9F6jiAbMmVqemI5cUtmYms
