Hello friends! It's been, uh, a while. Shall we replace the featured article?

Sure! Any ideas?

We do have suggestions still outstanding from last time, but ideally I'd want to feature something from somebody who could be described as an active user. Which disqualifies a lot of suggestions! It does allow for featuring your article on face-painting, though, which was also floated last time.

Whimemsz' story is also still a possibility, as is some of bloodbath's money.

The Hikoomayii story really needs updating, by which I mean Hikoomayii really needs updating, there's a lot I'm not satisfied with. The face-painting article is very cool though, particularly since it deals with a topic that pretty much no conworlder addresses (that I've seen).

The thing is—I've already been featured. It was back in April 2015, but still, I'd rather run the well dry of other people's stuff before repeating anyone (much less site staff.) It shouldn't be too hard to write up a paragraph on Bloodbath's banknotes. (Or... should we call it blood money?)

If you have other recent stuff, Whimemsz, then we could look at that, also. But I wouldn't go around using "it's old!" as an excuse if you're relatively inactive at conworlding and conlanging. (How's Lirar?)

Bloodbath's money is certainly quite worthy too.

[I sadly have not really done any conlanging in the last year or so, I've been busy with other things and the Muse has not hit me. So nothing recent, no.]

Now that I'm done with thesis doom (though prepping to move to the Netherlands), I can definitely contribute. What should it be on: the money I do, how to make money (coins and/or banknotes)...

And I'm still around! Just somewhat in permalurker mode, though mostly because doing my thesis last year ate up a lot of energy and time. Maybe now that that's done, I'll be able to be more active, especially if the post/activity count increases. (And I don't normally have it set to show me online, even if I do pop in from time to time.)

To be honest, a simple encyclopedia-style paragraph introducing the money would suffice; the traditional conworlding approach is, after all, to emulate Wikipedia as much as possible. But if you feel like putting together a bespoke piece, both a longer-form description of your design choices (probably again from an in-world perspective) or an article discussing your methods would both be valuable contributions to the community. Personally I'm more inclined to the former—you've described your methods before in a forum post, but worldbuilding is an endless font of material...

I think a bespoke piece is definitely doable. I could actually go a bit more on both: why did I make the choices I did for banknotes (especially, for example, for Ilia, which is one of the more recently-completed series I did) and on how I design banknotes. I know I've been meaning to do the latter, even though my process is a bit hard to really describe (it feels), but I'll try to go through at least the former. Because encyclopedic content for something like this doesn't seem the easiest...

So I do have a version that I completed a few months ago (on my blog here) that might be worth publicizing. I do have a second article I plan to do hopefully once things calm down/stabilize here on more "how to make money"/"how to make security documents", but we can start with a short intro article, if desired.

That does look nice. Could you do a one-paragraph summary/intro for the front page? Might make us look a little less dead ^^

Possible summary:

"As you develop a conworld or concountry, a natural progression might be to design your own money. Banknote design, though, can look daunting at first, with a lot of interlocking parts. In the first of this series, I'll go over some of the steps in banknote design, including things to consider as you're preparing to make it rain (in whatever currency units you use)."

Since it's been a while, I'd like to nominate Emily's work on Feelyat for the next con-object of promotion. Feelyat appears to be a spurious Western Germanic language invented for a skit on a Canadian sketch comedy show from 1994, which is close to the most implausible-sounding thing I've ever heard in the realm of pre-Internet conlanging, but her efforts in deciphering this incredibly elaborate throw-away clong are excellently matched with its own status as complete overkill. (I remain humbled and surprised by how much use Annie still gets, even though it isn't exactly in danger of getting overwhelmed from high usage.)

If We're supposed to vote on that, I'd say let's go with it. :-)

This is a pleasant idea. Emily, if you're reading this, how do you feel on making a little blurb for it?

I have no objection to featuring Feelyat, if such is still desired.
