Because of the recent move away from our primary webhost (motivated by stability issues), Annie now has a dynamic IP. This is rather undesirable, because Annie's DNS provider doesn't have a nice, clean way of supporting dynamic IPs for whole domains—but it does do redirects for subdomains! For the time being, if Annie appears to not be responding to connection attempts whatsoever, try dynamic.anthologi.ca instead. That should do the trick.

For better or worse, Annie has been moved from its previous colo server to my home connection. Hopefully, this will take us from the current 80-90% uptime situation to a more reasonable 99.5% uptime—albeit at the cost of bandwidth.

Much unnoticed, Anthologica celebrated its first birthday this month! For the first year of the new platform, this one hasn't been too shabby at all. Many conlangs were created, many words itemized, and many stories written of strange lands.

But most importantly, the site itself has changed a lot since its earliest days as the ATLAS Universe Repository, and there are a bunch of changes yet in store for the new year, so things are shaping up to be exciting.

Or I could simply make this a weird alternate reality version of my other, more realist conworld. Why didn't I think of that before?

It has occurred to me that my original Heterodoxy post has a problem: it's targeted primarily at people who already somewhat know what they're doing. Heck, it's pretty much a post to tell myself to be less silly.

So here is a bit of presumably even less controversial (should I rename this series "Orthodoxy"?) advice to people who are either starting out or have managed to avoid learning for a long time.  (…)

So, after three nice, relaxing weeks in North Carolina, I'm back in the dark abyss known as Ohio. This is because there is Science to be done, and I'm the Scientist to do said Science. I think. But, regardless, while I was away, I was very busy with things.

1.) Made a 50-franc note.


2.) Started a new passport design project, featuring higher resolution files and more stuff.


3.) Got a commission for a LOT of stuff to do. But should be fun. (More to come on that later.)

I was lying in bed yesterday thinking about things like this, so I'mma write it down. There will be sequels on the finer points, but anyway have a bit of basic RPG combat typology.  (…)

It's been a while, but here I am again. Making an RPG setting.

Originally I wanted to have just one, multi-purpose conworld, but I feel that this would pressure me into staying down-to-earth too much. So, with that in mind, I'm splitting my energies between this and Many Waters, which will from here on out be my boring realist conworld, in which I can fantasize about hypothetical scenarios that don't exist on earth.

I don't know if I will move over the old RPG setting stuff that is now in MW (most of it admittedly unpublished, but still) here or not. I figure it would be good to take a clean break, especially because much of the other stuff has become kind of corrupted into being boring & realist; Jalvaan and the associated culture were, originally, a kind of supermagical ersatz Elves who spoke a bad Latin. Now they're blonde convietnamese with no special qualities other than a genetic mutation that is significantly rarer in the real world, and the conlang is become something else altogether.

But enough of my other conworld. So what is this going to be about? As you can see from the title, the apocalypse has happened. But, well, it didn't work as well as planned. The big result is, there's a lot less people around (to the effect that large parts of the world are effectively uninhabited), and what divine order there was before has gone completely down the drain, along with the Gods who used to uphold it.

Much the same applies to the bad side of the war, of course, but evil is pernicious, and so the now-unsettled parts of the world are effectively large swathes of HERE THERE BE DRAGONS. A grim proposition.

But all is not lost! In a strange epidemic of stele-writing, monument-constructing, book-hiding and sticking named swords in stones, both sides made great effort to transmit their knowledge and power to whoever would manage to take it in the future, and hopefully finish the job.

The thread of fate is unbroken, but by whose hand will it be spun?

As anyone who looks at Tarra will have noticed, I've started to input the dictionary. As I'm doing this by hand, it will probably take a while, but that's fine, I'm not in a hurry. Later I'll probably enter my other scattered writings about Tarra. Most of them are works in process, but I like the idea and the possibilty offered by anthologica to have them all in one, accessible place.

I presume this is where I post notice that I am looking for people willing to donate appropriate mugshots (profile or ¾-view preferred) for use on banknote designs for noncommercial means. Message me for more details or information.

For a few years, people have asked about the possibility of me creating some sort of banknote tutorial. And, try as I might, it hasn't surfaced. There are several reasons why, the most prominent being:

·I really don't know where to go with such a tutorial. I design in a bit of a nonlinear way, bouncing here and there and not following too much of a set procedure. I do a lot of preliminary work in my mind as well, so such a tutorial may neglect various steps that I normally just skip over.

·I really don't feel comfortable or confident enough in my design ability to do a tutorial. Part of me still thinks the designs I do are very run-of-the-mill and nothing special.

With that, the big reason for this blog post is mainly to ask, if I were to do a banknotes or documents tutorial or a how-to guide, what would you like to see in it? How would you suggest it be structured?
