Yes. Note also exhibit C: LOOM. The fabric metaphor is quite well-developed. Clearly string theory is a modern attempt at renewal. (Physicists! Why do they always take things so literally?)

MS Paint was completely redesigned for Windows 7, as were Solitaire and Minesweeper. Personally, I still long for Windows 3.x's PaintBrush, which was actually slightly more featureful than Paint—until the latter finally got decent save formats in XP. (Although they also removed some—the 95 version lets you save in PCX, iirc.)

Well, pthag, idiocy tourism is a key part of how tawdry journalism works, pthag, especially in mṛqa, and it isn't going away. There will forever be trainwrecks and there will forever be gawking! Observe [http://www.reddit.com/r/rage/comments/1apm4h/obese_woman_addicted_to_cheesy_potatoes_cries/|this] breathtakingly high-gear disaster of a human being, for example. Or perhaps you can open one of the fine publications issued by your dear comrade-in-politics Rupert Murdoch?
Speaking of maps, any suggestions on how to figure out vector drawing? Aside from the obvious (googling it and/or potentially youtube tutorials), of course. I've only really done from-scratch bitmap work and you can only adjust so many pixels by hand before admitting you're wasting huge amounts of time.
You'd... need to say where you're stuck, I think? 'cause that's super open-ended. Step 1: run Inkscape. Step 2: draw squiggles with ...
Even cropping in MS Paint is agonizing.
Not in Seven and later; they added a crop button for the selection tool. Now the only thing that's agonizing is doing the math in your head to get a desired aspect ratio. Once again, technology that offloads responsibility for failure onto the user reigns supreme.

In principle, MS Paint is adequate for mapping—all one truly needs is the ability to set RGB values of pixels individually, and the rest is one form or another of laziness. (cue[plus]or do i mean queue[/plus] jokes about butterflies, magnets, xkcd being funny, and so forth) That doesn't mean it won't be anguish or yield hideous results, though.
