It is solved. They were all restrictives. Easy.

Calamity![note]Superlative of sorrow![/note] I have lost the grammar for "about." Now my restrictives are mangled!

Bad Conlanging Ideas (2020-04-06 03:07:31) :
I think that approach might walk you into the domain of philosophical languages. In order to subdivide the space you need to establish boundaries, which then must become explicit vowels. Any variability is then merely allophony that can be mapped to real phonemes, and the whole point of it is lost. The phonetic realization might be within any arbitrary, non-overlapping subdivision of the possible vowel space, but those still can (and must) be labelled for communication to be meaningful. Like wit...

[quote]The gender of nouns and pronouns in the sentence is relative to the gender of the verb. So if “to be” is a feminine verb, only women can say “I am” and have the statement be grammatically correct.[/quote]

I'm already doing this one with Oksirapho, which is partly a radical investigation into sexism gone deeply mad. But I think I outdid the submitter: the feminine/natural verbs use an ergative syntax, literally...

Conlang.org's community list (2020-03-16 21:19:13) :
I had a teenage phase as a computing history enthusiast, which was centred specifically around Multics and other MIT developments of the seventies, particularly Lisp machines and ITS. (Separately and concurrently I have a soft spot for the C64 and the Amiga. I usually win at retrocomputing trivia.) My admiration for PL/I is one unfettered by any actual experience with it, although when one understands the differences between it and C, the motivation between new projects like Rust and Go becomes ...

And now, a monologue about site performance and what I'm going to do about it.

Truth be told, the current software stack behind Annie is never going to be blazing fast. All of its features come at a cost to performance. The single worst culprit of this is a conflict between programming paradigms: Cadre's page template philosophy encourages encapsulation (routing all activity through smaller pieces of code to keep it cleanly isolated) but this results in a lot of individual SQL queries (...

Bugs, Requests, and Changes (2020-03-05 14:11:44) :
This is... sort of a feature I forgot to mention; as the name implies, it's meant to be an index of your language sorted by words in the language used for definitions, so you can have a two-way bilingual dictionary. It will be auto-populated if your definition starts with single words separated by commas, semicolons, or periods.

Here's Lilitika's, for comparison: http://memory.rhetori.ca/?id=310&mode=reverse

The key and unique benefit is that you can enter multiple words here o...

Conlang.org's community list (2020-03-04 22:29:08) :
Jeez. That's a bit morbid. There are actually two Anthologica listings [https://conlang.org/communities/|on their communities page at the moment], one no-longer-accurate link[note]I got tired of seeing 'academia' constantly. So now the optimal URL is anthologi.ca/forums, and the name is 'The Colonnade.'[/note] to the forums specifically, and one more general link under the miscellaneous resources section. There are quite a few entries on that page overall that are unambiguously dead and haven't ...

Coming Attraction: Sound Changes :
Wow. What year is it? Okay. Yikes. Been a while.

As may have been clear from recent bugs, I'm finally getting back into spending a lot of time on web development stuff. This in particular means lavishing Annie with long-deserved attention—maybe not the kind that will finally make the forums run smoothly, but definitely at least some of the stuff I was talking about doing way back in the olden days and never got around to executing on.

The first of these is every conlanger's fav...

To be honest, a simple encyclopedia-style paragraph introducing the money would suffice; the traditional conworlding approach is, after all, to emulate Wikipedia as much as possible. But if you feel like putting together a bespoke piece, both a longer-form description of your design choices (probably again from an in-world perspective) or an article discussing your methods would both be valuable contributions to the community. Personally I'm more inclined to the former—you've described your meth...

The thing is—I've already been featured. It was back in April 2015, but still, I'd rather run the well dry of other people's stuff before repeating anyone (much less site staff.) It shouldn't be too hard to write up a paragraph on Bloodbath's banknotes. [small](Or... should we call it blood money?)[/small]

If you have other recent stuff, Whimemsz, then we could look at that, also. But I wouldn't go around using "it's old!" as an excuse if you're relatively inactive at conworlding and co...

...So you're saying the proper syllabic analysis of "anthologica" is "an·θol·o·gʲi·ca"? With all those palatals in the last two syllables? I feel like my rights to linguistic representation have been violated. The Crown is deeply concerned.
