[quote Izambri, Duke, the Findible League]Another one about dictionaries.

In the [sc]related[/sc] section, what are we supposed to write when we have homophones and we use the [i]<!>numeral[/i] code?

For example, I have both [http://anthologi.ca/?id=267949|yr] and [http://anthologi.ca/?id=268327|–yr], but in [http://anthologi.ca/?id=267948|this entry] you can see that in [sc]related[/sc] the first one appears as «[i]yr1[/i]» if I put [i]yr<!>1[/i] there.[/quote]

A language where each consonant has a meaning (2023-06-05 20:01:01) :
Looks like a good start. This is called a [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophical_language|philosophical language]; you might be interested to see how others have approached the problems inherent in philosophical languages, like how to organize concepts, or how referring to specific objects can require really long words. Many languages of this category are designed to seek absolute, canonical names for all things, and they run into some special problems—like how to avoid cultural bias, how ...

A long-overdue round of spam cleanup has been applied.

The reason why Annie still doesn't have HTTPS is a bit convoluted, but basically, as long as you don't re-use passwords, we don't really need it.

Dictionary, Tag, and Entry have been updated with new magic from Memory versions. Changes:

[ol][li]No more comma after headwords. I can't find a single dictionary that does this unless there's a pronunciation after. The comma is restored if there is a pronunciation.
[li]New, more efficient print mode that is less likely to blow up and looks more like a real paper dictionary. I've been looking at a lot of paper dictionaries recently.

Featured Articles (Nominations, etc.) (2022-06-12 01:18:55) :
Since it's been a while, I'd like to nominate Emily's work on [http://anthologi.ca/?id=267594|Feelyat] for the next con-object of promotion. Feelyat appears to be a spurious Western Germanic language invented for a skit on a Canadian sketch comedy show from 1994, which is [i]close[/i] to the most implausible-sounding thing I've ever heard in the realm of pre-Internet conlanging, but her efforts in deciphering this incredibly elaborate throw-away clong are excellently matched with its own status ...

Bad Conlanging Ideas (2022-06-11 03:50:29) :
In a non–bad-conlanging-ideas context, I would expect that forcing the "within" infix on a one-syllable word either a) triggers an obligatory morphemic stump to be added at the end (e.g. vir –› vir-prao-us) or b) triggers some form of reduplication (vi-prao-vir, vir-prao-ir) or vowel splitting (vi-prao-ir), possibly with splitting of quantity (vīr -> vi-prao-ir).

...But [i]within[/i] a bad-conlanging-ideas context, either single-syllable words should be reserved for non-within-able p...

Sorry, do you mean to say the word starts with the character LATIN SMALL LETTER N WITH TILDE, or literally LESS-THAN SIGN? The former does indeed sound like a mess, but the latter might be deliberately mutilated (or amputated) as part of how the dictionary templates manage homonyms—typically in the format [tt][i]headword[/i]<!>[i]integer[/i][/tt].

EDIT: You were not talking about the stupid thing and were, in fact, talking about words that start with ñ. There's nothing specific in...

Quote Thread (2021-11-22 23:29:47) :
[[i]Editorial Note[/i]: Yes, there are two human cultures in my conworld setting that are monogendered, but they're both female-only. In one case, the males were killed by alien captors who saw them as competition; the core of their society collapsed after exposure to other humans. In the other, the convergence of eugenics and intellectual property law made it possible to inherit copyrights matrilineally and obtain royalties from citations indefinitely; those who objected left to form their own ...
