Post your goddess/god! (2014-02-05 02:56:16) :
Umu is the closest thing to god that the beastmen had. He is, essentially, the first progenitor (much like Adam) in our world. He had a lot of children with his two nephew (it's a long story).
Unlike beastmen themselves, Umu is depicted as being quadruped. The beastmen worship for Umu is akin to ancestral worship.

Actually in this case it's just old code—the auto-redirects are kind of a recent thing. The new Recursive Wiki Page template uses them, so after I'm done integrating it, I'll update everything else to follow suit.

Reduplication issues in my conlang (crosspost from blog) (2014-02-05 02:49:58) :
Intuitionalistically, I don't see a problem with it; there are lots of examples of systems where affixes can (appear to) have inverse effects on words just because you provide a different root. "Inflammable" is a great English example of this—a naïve English speaker will assume it means "not flammable."
Given that, I think this is actually a really natural problem for a language to have, and it would probably be solved by memorizing individual words from context. Over time, I bet the bo...

Classical has been done to death. By bronze age I mean palace economies mooching off of a handful of more enterprising societies, not togas and clockwork calendars.

A Flat Universe (2014-02-05 02:32:30) :
I think I get it—though it's a bit tricky. The toroidal explanation, while topologically accurate, is probably going to confuse a lot of people. Did you ever get around to drawing that diagram?

I volunteer myself as tribut... or. Contributor.
Technologically, I'd like to throw in a vote for earlier times. Simpler times. Bronze age or classical.

After updating things such as documents, the user is not automatically taken back to the document but rather has to click on a link to go back. This should be changed.

Derivation ideas (2014-02-04 04:10:21) :
This is the list that I mentioned on IRC yesterday. Unfortunately, Gary Shannon's site doesn't exist anymore – fortunately, it's been backed up by the Waybackmachine, however:

Derivation ideas :
For Proto-Søkkli I am in bad need of ideas for different kinds of derivation, as I have only a few such derivation paths, and find myself unnecessarily making noun-verb doublets where there really probably should have one derived from the other.
The current paths I have are agent noun from verb, gerund from verb with zero-derivation, adjectival verb from noun, and comparative, superlative, and elative from adjectival verb (which I do treat as derivation rather than inflection), diminuit...

Reduplication issues in my conlang (crosspost from blog) (2014-02-03 20:02:10) :
I can't say I can comment on the realism of the specified scheme of diminutive for nouns versus augmentative for adjectives for nouny adjectives (being both a rather inexperienced conlanger and a non-linguist), even though I personally would have made both act the same way (like with my adjectives in Proto-Søkkli, which are not merely verby but indeed are full-fledged verbs, albeit with some special derivational inflections).
Well, now that I think of it, it should be okay, especially i...
