The Bad Maps Thread (2014-09-08 07:16:48) :
That's... that's just so special... that's just so special I can see why you attempted to tape it to your incredibly cheap-looking wall. (That is one cheap-looking wall.)

Late night verbal TAME thoughts (2014-09-08 07:12:07) :
I think we'd need to see a concrete rendition of this before much useful feedback could be presented. Am I wrong to think that the narrative past will be a bit dull without an imperfective? Or did I parse that incorrectly?

raàyepèye Syllabary Thread (2014-09-08 07:07:57) :
Looking at it again... the original block forms might be okay if chiselled or carved into wax. You'd really just need an intermediary handwritten form. Look at how Georgian evolved, maybe? The liturgical form (Nuskhuri) is quite pleasant.

Conlang recordings thread (2014-09-08 07:06:01) :
That's really fluid too! I'm pretty impressed, H13.
How do you think these languages of mine sound?
Sumptlondonsk is definitely Dano-Norsk. Your cadences on Nahakhontl and Hurga ker Maja go straight into the giggle-zone and inspire imagery of vanting to suck blad. I might suggest trying to massage that a little, unless you were trying to engineer the trendy accent of a pretentious merchant or something.

The Map Thread (2014-09-08 07:00:42) :
Oh, speaking of maps... I did something a few months ago that I guess I never shared anywhere. Ladies and gentlemen, behold, [http://memory.rhetori.ca/globe/Apps/HelloWorld.html|a rough sketch of Thessia Major]. (I have actual borders for the countries and locations for several cities, and an actual map of the transit network in one city, but those'll come... y'know, whenever I get back to that project.)

Pretty Scripties Showcase Thread (2014-09-08 06:58:15) :
I think I'm going to agree with Nessari that there are some strokes in there that just wouldn't gel right when written by hand. It's neat and cool to have those forms typographically, but if you ever do a handwritten script, you'll absolutely need to get back to basics and try flipping a few of the characters. (It happens! It totally happens!) Otherwise, I like how it reminds me of Asomtavruli without being offensive in any way.

Exploring Classical Quazian Morphosyntax with Example Sentences (2014-09-08 06:54:47) :
The numbers are a little clunky, admittedly, but hey, THEY'RE NOT WORSE THAN SLAPSHIRUCKISH, so you can't exactly be too upset there. Though it does make me wonder how you'd read off a serial number without accidentally mixing the numbers up...
Also, do you have any plans for a word meaning 'zero'?
Also also, I find it curious how five isn't used in the definition of six. (I think I called this "base-eleven thinking in a base-ten system" once when I was younger.)

The Sound Change Thread (2014-09-08 06:51:08) :
Does that happen? That sounds pretty spooky. Why are tones so spooky? (And should I really be asking this at 7 in the morning?)

I have finally written down some grammar on here. (2014-09-08 06:49:07) :
It's kind of crazy how you jumped straight into syntax—were you ever going to give us morphology?
Overall, the word order choices seem pretty reasonable... the way your interrogative syntax is presented reminds me of how the punctuation mark "¿" was invented: to make it more obvious that a sentence was a question before you got to the end of it because the grammar gave no clues. (And this apparently required rearranging the sentence's meaning? I don't know enough about Spanish to commen...

Forumworld (2014-09-08 06:44:53) :
Let's talk about Maldisian grammar. In my mind, the way we've been discussing things promotes the idea of a generally isolating language that only occasionally forms compounds. It probably won't have much in the way of an overwhelming morphology system, since the Maldisians seem to be largely merchants descended from agrarian folk, but I could see room for a more elaborate register used preferentially by nobles and religious folk that preserves this sort of stuff.

Old Oxic (2014-09-08 06:39:58) :
So two months is a pretty good amount of time for a verb system to happen in. Any plans there?

Let's talk about register. (2014-09-08 06:38:18) :
An idea for how to make this thread thrive: build a translation challenge out of it. I'll draw up a list of plausible core words and phrases that might be common register markers.

Post your goddess/god! (2014-09-08 06:33:54) :
Okay. Posting spree continues. Let's see if I can dredge up enough interest in another Lilitic deity... hmm... who... Oh, yeah. [http://memory.rhetori.ca/?Múrekíha|Múrekíha] has been on my mind a lot lately. Be warned: this post is more or less a summary of several ways in which the Lilitai are less than perfect.
The Goddess of Sadism, Múrekíha, is a Dútéan[note]bad, evil, misery-associated[/note] deity like Alestéa,[note]see previous post[/note] but is more of a clear-cut negati...

This really didn't get the attention it deserved when it appeared. (Stupid summer workload.) If I'm not mistaken this was a huge improvement over the first draft you put out, though in four months I don't remember it too well. I love the phonetic texture you produced; it's very consistent with the original roots inventory and does a good job of respect...

Knock, knock... If you're not going to do The Little Prince, Jipí, were you considering any other significant texts? You haven't mentioned anything else on Benung about these plans. (Although I know you're already tied down with your current Semester O' Hell.)
