Avatars are now stored by user ID number, not username. (Sorry, Ness, for the re-download.) User profiles will now update to match your name when you visit the front page, so that should minimize (although not completely prevent) discordance.
...also I am not in Etobicoke; I have no idea why my workplace would show up like that. Grumble.

Shapshiruckish (2014-04-29 22:12:12) :
the vowel system is back-heavy on purpose, yes, to give it lots of ways to fall over in the descendants.
Manchu seems to have something similar, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchu_language#Vowels but the back vowels are even closer together and there doesn't seem to be a rounding distinction. i like the idea of /u/ being fronted initially. maybe word-finally, though.
For Proto Martial I was moving towards a vowel length distinction with something like
ə > e
iə ...

i'm assuming you realize that vowel system is very unrealistic, but, that vowel system is very unrealistic. maybe e > ə pushed o downwards, but that'd still be weird, since it's already got a rounding contrast in nonfront vowels. e > ə would make some sense given the presence of /je/... hm.

Pretty Scripties Showcase Thread (2014-04-29 15:49:33) :
The characters of the traditional alphabet were pulled directly from the ancient Axonian syllabary. This was a political move by the incipient Second Empire to help legitimize itself as the continuation of the First (or Axonian) Empire. The modern forms came about not too long afterwards, because yes, the traditional alphabet is pretty cumbersome.
