For obnoxious technical reasons this is the [i]inverse[/i] of the way glosses are done. Oi moi!

As of now, those'll need to be switched to footnotes containing plus notes. Use plus notes for things like glosses of rare words; keep it simple. This way the text flow is less disrupted.

I guess the most practical interpretation would be: "if you just need to make a quick remark, use a plus note; but if it's longer or the reader might want to click/select something in the remark, definitely use a footnote."[note]Or don't; I'm a sign, not a cop.[plus]Oh wait, I [i]am[/i] a cop.[/plus][/note]

...okay, new style option. Try this out. Fake alt status messages, like back in the day. I've used this style before, for glosses in a [http://memory.rhetori.ca/?Sentence Sandbox|random sentence generator]. It worked out pretty well there.
